  • OnePlus has announced that it will “further integrate” with Oppo.
  • The firm says it’ll still operate independently of Oppo though.
  • OnePlus insists that the move will deliver more resources and hints at faster, more stable updates.

OnePlus has cozied up to sister company Oppo in recent times, with the brands confirming earlier this year that they were essentially merging their R&D efforts. Now, OnePlus has announced that it’s moving to further integrate with its stablemate.

The company announced the decision on the OnePlus community forum, with co-founder Pete Lau acknowledging earlier efforts to merge several OnePlus and Oppo teams.

“After seeing positive impact from those changes, we’ve decided to further integrate our organization with Oppo,” the OnePlus executive explained. So what does this mean for OnePlus?

“With this deeper integration with Oppo, we will have more resources at hand to create even better products for you. It will also allow us to be more efficient, for example, bringing faster and more stable software updates for OnePlus users,” Lau elaborated. He added that OnePlus would continue to operate independently.

Does this mean OnePlus is essentially an Oppo sub-brand (albeit with autonomy)? Should global users expect ColorOS on new OnePlus phones (as seen on Chinese OnePlus devices)? What does the integration actually entail? We’ve posed these questions to OnePlus and will update the story when/if we receive a response.
