  • Foldable phone shipments grew over 300% in 2021, according to a new tracking report.
  • Samsung was the undisputed leader thanks to its newest foldables.

Modern foldable phones have been a thing since 2019 when Samsung launched the Galaxy Fold. But the product category has taken a while to achieve huge sales success. Now, a new market share report by Omdia has shed some light on foldables in 2021.

The tracking company reported that global foldable phone shipments grew 309% year-on-year in 2021, with nine million units shipped last year. Unsurprisingly, eight million units were shipped in the second half of 2021, when Samsung launched its Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 devices.
