She captioned the post: “Protect kids, not guns!”
Selena Gomez is the latest celebrity to show support for Saturday’s March for Our Lives , the rally organized by students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School advocating for gun reform.
In an Instagram posted Friday afternoon (March 23), Gomez shared the march’s logo with the message: “Protect kids, not guns! #MarchForOurLives.” This is the first time she has posted support for the movement on social media, and is a rare political message from the “Wolves” singer.
Taylor Swift , who also typically remains quiet on partisan issues, posted a lengthier caption with the same photo to her own Instagram around the same time as Gomez.
The march has drawn support from across the spectrum of celebrities, with Ariana Grande,Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato and Jennifer Hudson pledging to join and perform at the march .
Perhaps most notable were major donations made by Oprah Winfrey and George and Amal Clooney. Winfrey and the Clooneys gave $500,000 each to Parkland, Florida, students who organized the march after a Feb. 14 school shooting took the lives of 17 students and teachers at Stoneman Douglas.
The Parkland-organized march will take place on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., with over 800 sibling marches taking place in each of the 50 states and multiple other countries around the world.
