  • Oppo is reportedly working on the Oppo Watch 2.
  • The smartwatch could come with Qualcomm’s Wear 4100 Plus SoC under the hood.
  • Its international model could run Wear OS.

Oppo launched its first smartwatch running Wear OS last year and it looks like the company is readying a more powerful successor. According to an analysis of firmware files collected by tipster mlgmxyysd (via XDA Developers), the Oppo Watch 2 could come bearing the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100 Plus SoC.

By the time the Oppo Watch launched running on the Snapdragon Wear 3100, Qualcomm had already unveiled the faster Snapdragon Wear 4100 SoCs. The Mobvoi TicWatch Pro 3 is the only smartwatch that currently uses the latest Qualcomm chipset.

The tipster also suggests that the new Oppo smartwatch will get the Ambiq Apollo 4s coprocessor. Oppo co-developed the SoC with Ambiq and recently confirmed at a media meet in China that it’ll feature inside its next smartwatch.

The second chip will apparently help the Oppo Watch 2 run a low-powered RTOS in addition to the main operating system.

The leaker further reveals that the software of the second-generation Oppo Watch is based on Android 8.1 Oreo. It won’t run Wear OS in China, but the international model might get Google’s software just like its predecessor. It’s unclear if the device will get the revamped version of Wear OS that Google is developing with Samsung or if it’ll stick to the software in its existing state.

Elsewhere, the Oppo Watch 2 is expected to have seven models divided into 42mm and 46mm sizes. It could come with 16GB of storage, up from 8GB on the current model. The device is also tipped to support eSIM connectivity. Some expected features include stress detection, remote camera control, a tweaked UI, and a new Relax app. However, these findings only pertain to the Chinese model of the smartwatch.
