  • Samsung’s experiment of bringing the S Pen to the Galaxy S21 Ultra may not have worked as expected.
  • The phone has apparently not sold as much as Samsung would have liked.
  • This might be why the company is contemplating bringing back the Note series.

Samsung changed things up this year by bringing the S Pen to its Galaxy S series flagship — the Galaxy S21 Ultra. Everyone thought this marked the end of the Galaxy Note series, but the company later confirmed that’s not the case. Now, we may know the reason why Samsung hasn’t entirely ditched the possibility of new Galaxy Note phones.

According to Twitter tipster Tron, Samsung is in discussions to bring back the Galaxy Note series next year because the market response to the Galaxy S21 Ultra with the S Pen hasn’t been what the company expected.

Even though the Galaxy S21 Ultra is the only phone in the series to support the S Pen, its implementation is not ideal. For one, there’s no holster for the stylus on the phone. The device is also not compatible with any Bluetooth-related S Pen features.

Contrary to what the tipster suggests, Samsung recently announced that it witnessed increased sales of its flagship models in the first quarter of this year. It called the Galaxy S21 series its star performer.

Although the company hasn’t given out a global breakup of sales for different models in the series, the basic Galaxy S21 model is the most sold device of the lot in the company’s home market. It accounted for 52% of the total Galaxy S21 sales in South Korea back in March. This was followed by the S21 Ultra, which, according to Samsung, made up 27% of the series’ sales in the same market.

The global picture might be similar to what’s happening in South Korea or it might be different as per what the tipster suggests. However, the good news for Note series fans is that this experiment to bring the S Pen to the Galaxy S series might just push Samsung to make a better phablet next year.
