  • Google announced Android 12 Go, which brings speed boosts and privacy features to the low-powered OS.
  • In addition to Android 12 staples, Android 12 Go adds unique Files Go, Nearby Share improvements, and more.
  • The first devices running Android 12 Go will launch in 2022.

Google’s Android (Go edition) operating system doesn’t make the headlines like it used to, but that doesn’t mean it’s not being used. The company today announced 200 million daily active users of Android Go, alongside an all-new version of the OS that will launch in 2022.

The main focus for Android 12 Go edition — much like Android 12 proper — are privacy, security, and speed. Android 12 Go will be able to launch apps up to 30% faster and with smoother animations than before. This will also be helped by the SplashScreenAPI that’s now available to developers for the low-powered OS.
